ABOUT US

At LAIDBACK we’re a lot like you. We’re athletes – skiers, bike riders, tennis players, golfers, fitness enthusiasts, hikers and more. We are desk jockeys, dog walkers, students and parents. Pressure and stress is ever constant. Work and family commitments are never ending. We work hard, play hard, and we (try to) take care of ourselves and our bodies.

We’ve learned that we are our best selves when we’re paying attention to our total well-being. That means doing the work to stay physically fit, but also being mindful of the necessary recovery – the rest and rejuvenation that allows us to work and play another day.

And that’s where LAIDBACK comes in.

Hi. We’re Dave and Chris Laidman, owners of LAIDBACK. Thank you for your interest in our massage chairs.

You know, about 3 years ago Dave made the decision to get into the massage chair business. When he told his friends about this they were…..let’s just say…..polite. We mean they were happy for us but we could tell they were a little suspect. Ultimately we realized their hesitation stemmed from their associating massage chairs with those they had seen at Brookstone at the mall, or the ones at nail salons, or worse, those you find at rest stops on the turnpike.

The turning point came when we got them to sit in one of our chairs. That’s when they got it. They were truly able to appreciate how far the technology has come.

We can talk about the benefits of massage chairs like reducing your aches and pains, recovering faster after your workouts, lowering your blood pressure, relieving stress, etc. but those are just marketing bullet points. They won’t make any sense until you experience what these chairs can do. So we have one thing to ask of you – come to LAIDBACK and sit in our chairs. Come by yourself, bring a partner or a friend. Just try it.

And one last thing. We chose the name LAIDBACK for a couple of reasons. The first is the obvious play on our name. Second, the chairs will make you feel laid-back. And third, LAIDBACK is how we do business. Massage chairs are a significant investment – one that can pay dividends for years to come. But it needs to be right for you. Bottom line – we’re not going to pressure you into buying a chair. Come in, try the different chairs, come back again if you need to, and when you’re ready to take the next step, we’re happy and honored to have that conversation with you.

Dave spent his formative years in business in the tech industry, including several start-ups. Pressure was a part of his life! Capitalizing on his tech experience and passion for skiing, He soon moved on to build his own e-tailing business in the snow sports market. Wearing many hats, while juggling a young family, led him to truly appreciate the value of rest and rejuvenation. Continuing with his love of all things active and facing the facts that our bodies need more care as we age and continue to push our limits, led him to his current association with Infinity Massage Chairs. He, and his wife Chris, founded Engage Wellness Solutions (the parent company behind LAIDBACK). The idea was to help small and large corporations expand their internal wellness programs by providing massage chairs and body composition analysis equipment either through purchase or rent.

In late 2019, Chris and Dave began planning the expansion of their business into the retail / direct-to-consumer market and sought retail space to open a concept store in Metro West Boston. Their timing couldn’t have been better; with the advent of COVID in early 2020 and reduced ability to interact with corporate customers, they were able to put all their energy into creating the retail experience that is LAIDBACK.

From professional mom/cat juggler, to marketing specialist, Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to every project she tackles. As someone that goes hard all the time, she knows the value of relaxation. Everyone will appreciate her insight to the value of Laidback.

She’ll also be the first to tell you that when Dave approached her with the idea about massage chairs, she was skeptical (to put it lightly). Her only experience with these were at the mall and nail salons and she wasn’t very impressed. Only after a few sessions in the Infinity chairs did she come to appreciate their value. Massage is now a regular part of her day.
